Under the USAID-funded Maharashtra Minor irrigation Project: Irrigation
Management Information System Development, CADI (1) reviewed current procedures
for hydro-meteorological, groundwater, land use, sediment, irrigation
operation, command area, cropping, and farmer data collection being used
by the Irrigation Department; (2) prepared a plan for establishing a computerized
information system for irrigation management (IMIS) within the irrigation
department; (3) recommended and assisted in the procurement of computer
software and hardware for the IMIS; (4) developed the IMIS, which included
three main components: (a) a database management system to store data
collected from the irrigation systems; (b) a model with 14 modules to
assist system managers to plan, operate, monitor, and evaluate the irrigation
systems; and (c) GIS to store and display spatial information and link
with the database management system; (5) developed a statewide implementation
plan for field application of the IMIS; and (6) Assessed computer training
needs, developed a three-phase training program, conducted various courses
(i.e., data management, programming, computer aided design and mapping,
GIs, MIS), implemented on-the-job training, and trained a core team to
conduct future training courses. |
